How Finals Works
Finals is an ONSIGHT format.
Competitors will attempt to climb 4 different boulder climbs.
They will have a 5 minute period to attempt to climb the boulder, followed by a 5 minute period between each.
They will not be able to watch other competitors try the climbs. This means they have to figure out their own way to climb it.
They get 25 points for getting to the top of each boulder.
If they can’t get to the top, they have the ability to score on mid-way points throughout each climb called ZONES. Zones can be worth 5, 10, 15, or 20 points. Each climb could have a different zone set-up.
Their final score on each boulder is based on just their high-point, either the top or the highest zone they reached, MINUS 0.1 points for every unsuccessful attempt it took them to get there.
EXAMPLE: If the climber got a high-point on a zone worth 15 points, and it took them 3 tries to get there, they will get a 14.8 on that climb.
The total score is a sum of their scores on all 4 boulders, with their score from the qualifying round as a tie-break. Ties are always possible!
Climbers can just use holds of a specific colour, as well as the wall itself and any volumes (dark grey wooden structures used to change the shape of the wall).
